“I dream a dream that dreams back at me”
I had the honor of meeting Toni Morrison two years ago when she spoke in Buffalo, exactly 50 years to the date that Martin Luther King gave his speech “The Future of Integration” at the same venue.
Coincidentally, I brought her book “Remember: The Journey to School Integration” to be signed. I remember being nervous waiting in line, she looked tired and had already signed books for at least 50 people in front of me. By the time I approached her, she was barely looking up from the books she was signing.
However, when she saw the book I brought, she looked up at me, smiled, winked, and said “That’s a good book.”
It’s a moment I’ll always remember, and I immediately had this image in my head when I heard of her passing.
